FAQ's

When will we return to school?

We will return to school when it is deemed safe for staff and students. It will not be any sooner than April 13, 2020, and may be extended beyond that. As more information becomes available, we will share. 

How do I access my child’s medication that is currently at school?

School nurses will be conducting an inventory of all students’ medications. If you have medicine at the school health office,  a phone call will be made with the following instructions: Your child's medication will be available for pick up at the AESD district office at 295 W Western Ave, Avondale, AZ 85323 on Thursday, March 26 between 8 am and 12 pm. Please bring ID to claim your student's medication. If you cannot make this time please call 602-763-1452 to arrange an alternate pick up time.

May I come to the school to pick up my child’s personal belongings?

No. Students and families are restricted from entering our schools. This enables our staff to work remotely and our maintenance department to ensure sanitized spaces.

Can you provide meals for my child during the school closure?

Yes. AESD is offering no-cost meals at select school locations. Available to any child under 18. Children must be present. Click here for more information.

We have select bus stop locations where grab-n-go breakfast & lunch for children will be available for pick-up. Families coming to pick up food should still ensure social distancing for the safety of our community. Click here for a map of the bus stop locations and times.

Are you sending me updates from AESD?

Please be aware that official communication will be released by the Avondale Elementary School District via email and/or phone alerts, on AESD official websites and social media. To prevent misleading communication, please note our website and social media below:

We would like to continue to celebrate and uplift our AESD community. Feel free to send photos of student enrichment activities and meal pick ups to share with us. We are staying together through some very difficult times. Submitting photos (through email or direct messages) gives Avondale ESD permission to share and post on social media and website. You can email photos to aesd_media@avondale.k12.az.us

Do you have resources to help me engage my child at home?

Yes. There are supplemental resources available currently on our website at www.avondale.k12.az.us/parents/enrichment_activities. Our teachers and school leadership teams are developing a supplemental program to support our students through the school closures and are anticipating being ready for Monday, March 23rd. In the meantime, our staff is reaching out to families to stay connected to our kids for social-emotional support. Our initial focus is to let students know we care about them and that we will stay connected over the course of the closure. Further information will be communicated by your teacher and school sites.  If you are in need of supplemental materials to be printed, please complete this form (click here) and pick it up at the district office on Tuesday, March 24th from 9-11 AM.

When will you send my child’s report card?

Report cards are postponed until further notice.

How do I get a refund for my child’s preschool and/or extended day tuition?

All tuition paid for days in which our programs are closed in the month of March will be credited to your account for future use once the school closure has ended.   If your child is not returning to one of our programs, you may request a refund form by emailing cortega@avondale.k12.az.us. Please be patient as staffing is limited during the closure and refunds may take several weeks to process.

Do you need donations or volunteers?

Thank you to the many people and organizations who have offered to help us address this challenge. We encourage you to focus on your health and your family right now, and a supportive note to your child’s teacher is always appreciated! We may have the capacity to utilize community support in the near future, Please email aesd_media@avondale.k12.az.us if you would like to be added to the list of potential resources for future needs.

Will we have make up days at the end of the school year?

This has not yet been determined. We are seeking guidance from the State of Arizona.

Will we have 8th grade promotions?

That will depend on if/when we go back to school.

Will my child take AzMERIT tests this year?

We are seeking guidance from the State of Arizona about this annual standardized test.
